Readings and Workshops
Nomad tries to make every reading feel like a party. We provide snacks and drinks and encourage our always capacity audiences to hang around afterward. In recent years our readings have been held at either The Ellington Room at Manhattan Plaza or TheaterLab on 36th St.
In 2018 our reading of "Look At Me (Ruff Ruff)" by the wonderful Cynthia Hanson.
At Rehearsal: Pictured from left to right are Robert Lerardi, John Gutierrez, Robert Gilbo, Cynthia Hanson, Pamela Racine, LeeAnne Hutchison, and Alyssa Simon.
Here we are after the reading: Grant Neale, LeeAnne Hutchison, director Robert Gilbo, and the playwright Cynthia Hanson
We had a great reading of Kari Floren's fun and fascinating "If Wishes Were Horses." Pictured here from left to right are all the artists involved: Bruce Barton, Kari Floren, Michael McKenzie, LeeAnne Hutchison, Grant Neale, Woody Sempliner, and Hillary Charnas.
Here are several pics from the workshop and reading of Randy Neale's heartbreaking "Natty Bumppo." Pictured in this performance at TheaterLab are Sita Johnson, LeeAnne Hutchison, Grant Neale, August Northcut, and Brandon Riley. The artwork on the wall panels were made by audience members as they entered the studio, and the beautiful projected drawings are the artwork of August Northcut.
The Caucasian Chalk Circle
Nomad had a week-long workshop of Bertolt Brecht's wonderful parable "The Caucasian Chalk Circle" in 2016 and we have been itching to do a full production ever since. We are slated to perform it at La MaMa in December but 2020 but alas COVID-19 has intervened and we may have to wait a while longer. As these photos show, we will invite the audience to arrive early at the theater to help us create the scenery, and perhaps learn a few songs for the performance. It will be a highly physical production.
