“If ever the overused term "tour de force" applies, it is with The Fool's Lear It should be performed in rep with King Lear whenever possible. It is that good!"

About Us

Nomad Theatrical Company made its’ debut offering in 1994 with three late night performances of Artistic Director Grant Neale’s existential one act comedy You Won’t Be Eating Them, They’ll Be Eating You at the One Dream Theater in TriBeCa, New York City.  Since then we have presented innovative productions of both classical plays and new works with a particular emphasis on creating a unique physicality for the world of the given play, and metamorphic scenic designs.  We have made full productions of plays by Tennessee Williams, August Strindberg, William Shakespeare, Henrik Ibsen, Vaclav Havel.  It is also part of our mission to help develop new plays and to that end we have had over one hundred developmental and public readings of new plays including those of Kari Floren, Edward Einhorn, Cynthia Hanson, John Robert Tillotson, Sarah Lynn Brown, Amy Berryman, Randy Neale, Michael Patrick Kane, and many others.  We have also developed full productions of new plays by Sharr White The Last Orange Dying, John Robert Tillotson’s Residual Effects, Randy Neale’s solo show Chaos Theory, and The Third Policeman freely adapted from the Flann O’Brien novel by Stephen Jobes and Grant Neale, a commissioned work by Randy Neale The Fools Lear which premiered at PURE Theatre in Charleston, toured the East Coast and had a New York run with Phoenix Theatre Ensemble, and the solo show Polanski Polanski by Saviana Stanescu which performed at HERE, PS 122, The Chain Theater, and toured to Romania playing Teatrul Odeon in Bucharest, The Sibiu Festival, and Transylvania International Film Festival.

"The technical credits were impressive, with subtle lighting (by Evan Ritter) and good sound effects (design by Elizabeth Rainey) -- swords and slaps and music."

Here is an imperfect and messy list of some of the Amazing Artists who have lent their time and talents to Nomad Theatrical Company.  Special mention must be made of Hillary Spector who was Co-Artistic Director of Nomad for several years partnering with Grant Neale on the creation of many productions as a producer, talented costume designer, and an actress of sublime physical grace and emotional power.  Also, Karen Lee Ott was Nomad’s Dramaturg for many years and was instrumental in creating several of our productions and our monthly play reading series which took place for three years at a bar on 26th Street called The Black Door. And Stephen Jobes who has worked on nearly every Nomad production as either a Director or Acting Coach (which we affectionately call the Bot Fly).
